Age is Just a Number

Remember the movie The Age of Adaline? Blake Lively plays Adaline Bowman, a young woman who stops aging following an accident at the age of 29. As Adaline negotiates a life on the run because she has turned into a freak and people want to perform experiments on her, the viewer is left thinking “be careful what you wish for!”

Still, who wouldn’t want to remain as gorgeous as Blake their whole life? Given the popularity of youth enhancing treatments that range from potions to Botox to surgery, it seems a great many of us would.

Looking, and more importantly I think, feeling well as you age is in fact something you can certainly manage. So much of it is having the right positive outlook to begin with. Of course a healthy diet and exercise go almost without saying.

And then there are certain triggers that take you back to your carefree youth - riding a bike for instance. In Italian class our teacher calls us “ragazzi/e” which is literally translated adolescent boy/girl! I love it. Speaking of class, any learning experience is a wonderful youth enhancer, be it cooking classes or going back to school to study economics or whatever you’ve always been interested in.

Spending time with grandchildren is a chance to see the world through their wondering eyes. Time crawls to a slow pace as you watch their reactions on a simple walk: they become entranced with twigs and stones, insects and birds, airplanes and the moon above.

So yes, there is life after 20 or 30 or 60. And like Adaline (spoiler alert), you can celebrate that first grey hair!

Ciao Bella!
